Ben Franklin Community Garden - Celebrating 40 years!

Calendar / Events

>>> 2010 <<<

Ice Cream Social

Wednesday, July 14, 2010
6:00 PM to 7:30 PM

Each year gardeners are invited and encouraged to attend the ice cream social. The event features ice cream, root beer floats and a chance to meet and socialize with other gardeners.

Gardeners are welcome to bring along family and friends for a good time and a scoop or two.

All Access Home and Bicycle Tour

Saturday, July 17, 2010
12 Noon to 4 PM

The garden will be a destination stop on the trolley tour. Two trolleys will be in circulation with pickup and drop off expected about every 15-20 minutes.

Cuyahoga County Fair – Fairgrounds in Berea

August 9th thru August 15th, 2010

The garden will be an entrant in the Community Garden category. Ben Franklin looks to take home the coveted blue ribbon for the third year in a row. Produce from multiple gardeners will be on display within the exhibit.

Also look for entries by individual gardeners in the produce shed. Ben Franklin gardeners have a history of good showing (placing and winning) within the agriculture events.

Harvest Picnic

Saturday, September 11, 2010

The annual Harvest Picnic is another opportunity to meet fellow gardeners and share that which unites us – GOOD FOOD. It also gives us a chance to swap “war stories” about our battle with cucumber beetles, leaf spot and bacterial blight.

Attendees are asked to bring a dish to share. Hot dogs, brats and drinks are provided by the garden.

The gardeners will also elect four members to the operating committee.

Save the date on your calendars and plan on attending.

Garden Closing

Sunday, October 17, 2010

Before leaving for the year Gardeners must: remove weed blocking material; level raised beds; remove/use straw in bales; make sure there is no standing vegetation over two feet high and no vines over four feet long.

Gardeners must be “cleared” by the Garden Coordinator or a Garden Committee member.
